At launch, ‘Redfall’ on Xbox will not feature a 60 fps mode

Arkane Studios has announced that Redfall, the upcoming vampire-slaying shooter, will only offer a 30 frames per second “Quality” mode at launch on Xbox Series X and S. Players hoping for a smoother 60 fps “Performance” option will have to wait for an unspecified update.

It remains unclear why the 60 fps mode won’t be available initially, and neither Arkane nor Bethesda have offered any comment on the matter. On Xbox Series X, the 30 fps mode runs at 4K, while on Series S, it runs at 1440p. On PC, players’ frame rates are dependent on their hardware.

In most games, 60 fps modes involve visual compromises such as lower resolutions, reduced quality effects, or fewer on-screen characters. Implementing such modes can be a complex process, with developers needing to ensure that the experience remains intact.

While the absence of a 60 fps mode won’t impact the core gameplay of Redfall, it could prove disappointing for Xbox gamers who value a smoother experience over lush graphics. Redfall is a fast-paced game that could benefit from the added responsiveness of a 60 fps mode.
