Apple’s Upcoming iPad Mini 7 to Address ‘Jelly Scrolling’ Issue and Offer Camera Upgrade

Redesign in Assembly Process Expected to Mitigate 'Jelly Scrolling' Effect on iPad Mini 7

If you’re a proud owner of an iPad mini 6, you’re probably well acquainted with the phenomenon known as ‘jelly scrolling,’ which causes text and images to appear slanted due to varying refresh rates. The good news is that Apple is reportedly taking steps to rectify this issue in the forthcoming iPad mini 7.

The information comes from a reliable tipster known as Instant Digital, who shared insights on the Chinese social media platform Weibo (via MacRumors). According to the tipster, changes in the assembly process of the iPad mini 7’s screen will reduce the visibility of the ‘jelly scrolling’ effect.

Apple previously stated that ‘jelly scrolling’ is considered normal behavior for an LCD display, linked to the screen’s refresh mechanism. However, it’s worth noting that this issue seems to be more noticeable on the iPad mini, possibly due to its size. Additionally, the problem primarily manifests in portrait mode and is not as noticeable in landscape mode. While it doesn’t render the iPad mini 6 unusable, once you become aware of it, it can be challenging to ignore.

Enhancements Beyond the ‘Jelly Scrolling’ Fix The same tipster, known for accurate predictions in the past, also provided insights into other improvements coming to the iPad mini 7. It’s expected to feature an upgraded front-facing camera. The current model boasts a 12MP ultrawide selfie camera, but Apple may have something even better in store.

Moreover, Instant Digital suggests that the next iPad mini could be unveiled later this month, possibly alongside an updated first-generation Apple Pencil that utilizes USB-C and the iPad Air 6, which has been previously reported as well.

Apple’s next iPad refresh has been a topic of debate, with no clear launch date in sight. Considering that the iPad mini 6 was released in September 2021, a successor is overdue. There have been whispers that it might arrive before the end of 2023.

When it does debut, the improvements may not be extensive. A faster chipset has been mentioned, although the design might remain largely unchanged. It’s possible that Apple will announce the new model through a press release rather than a dedicated event.
