Apple has acknowledged a bug in iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touch devices that affects the Screen Time restrictions for kids, particularly the Downtime feature. Downtime allows parents to remotely set hours when their children cannot use their devices. However, some users have reported that the Screen Time settings are unexpectedly being reset, causing scheduled times to revert to older settings or be removed entirely.
The issue has been reported by multiple users, and around 2,300 people on an Apple discussion page have experienced the same bug. Some parents find themselves needing to reset the feature frequently, as it does not retain the desired settings for their children’s device usage. The bug was known to Apple before, and the company claimed to have fixed it with the release of iOS 16.5 in May. However, the problem persisted in subsequent releases and even in the iOS 17 beta.
Apple has acknowledged the issue and stated that they take these reports seriously. They are actively working on updates to address the bug and improve the situation for users. However, the company has not provided a specific timeline for the release of the fix. Screen Time was introduced in 2018 to help parents manage and monitor their children’s device usage, but this bug has caused inconvenience for many parents trying to enforce restrictions on their kids’ screen time.
