Anna, an axe-wielding character, appears in Fire Emblem Engage

Nintendo has recently released some gameplay of Anna, a new playable character in Fire Emblem Engage. Though fans of the genre will know the returning figure, Fire Emblem Engage’s take on the iconic merchant’s latest appearance is surprising.

The long-running tactics game franchise’s 17th mainstream entry is Fire Emblem Engage. Emblem Rings, strong artefacts that let new characters to summon and merge with heroes from previous Fire Emblem games, are the new gimmick introduced in Fire Emblem Engage. This enables Fire Emblem Engage to incorporate fan-favourite figures from its past as unique characters.

Anna seems to be returning to Fire Emblem Engage as well, but not as an Emblem Ring summon. In Fire Emblem Engage, the legendary merchant returns as a flesh-and-blood playable character. However, it seems that Anna is considerably younger. Fire Emblem Engage’s Anna is an Axe Fighter who travels the world searching for valuable things to sell. According to the teaser, Anna intends to profit from Alear’s position as the Divine Dragon.

Anna is well-known among fans of the Fire Emblem series. The red-haired merchant has featured in every Fire Emblem game, including major titles and supplementary games such as Fire Emblem Warriors. She even has a significant part in the tale of the mobile game Fire Emblem Heroes. Though she is generally an NPC merchant or instructional figurehead, Anna first appeared as a playable character in Fire Emblem Awakening and has since appeared in practically every Fire Emblem game.

Many people are looking forward to seeing this new Anna in Fire Emblem Engage. Anna is a series mainstay, and many fans believe that a Fire Emblem game would be incomplete without her. She’s been a fan favourite throughout the years, and gamers can’t wait to see what this younger Anna is like when Fire Emblem Engage arrives.

However, some gamers are dissatisfied with Anna’s makeover in Fire Emblem Engage. Many of these players believe that making Anna a kid is difficult, particularly since some of them had romanced her in previous games. Others are enraged. Karen Strassman seems to have been replaced as Anna’s voice actress. In contrast, the current controversy surrounding her political ideas and support for NFTs may have prompted Nintendo to do so in order to prevent negative news. When Fire Emblem Engage comes in a few weeks, players won’t have to wait long to see what the game accomplishes with the legendary figure.
