Amazon Reinvents Echo Buds with Affordable Model, Catering to Budget-Conscious Consumers

In a surprising move, Amazon has taken a different approach with its latest addition to the Echo Buds series. Rather than following the trend of bigger and better models, the tech giant has opted for a more lightweight design for its new Echo Buds. This comes with the removal of noise cancellation and differently-sized silicone tips. Instead, the new Echo Buds feature a “semi-in-ear design” that allows outside sound to seep through, ensuring users are aware of their surroundings.

While the audio experience may not be as immersive, the redesigned Echo Buds offer some notable features. Thanks to the overhaul, Amazon was able to significantly improve the battery life, allowing the earbuds to last up to 20 hours on a single charge when the case is fully powered. In comparison, the previous generation Echo Buds could only manage up to 10 hours with the case.

The new Echo Buds retain several features from previous models, including the integration of Alexa for voice commands and touch controls that can be customized. The earbuds also come equipped with two microphones and a voice detection accelerometer, enabling better call quality by distinguishing between the person speaking and surrounding voices. Additional features include multipoint pairing to switch audio between two devices simultaneously and a VIP Filter to customize notification preferences.

Priced at $40 (£32 or approximately $60 AUD), the latest Echo Buds bear a striking resemblance to Apple’s original AirPods, offering a similar one-size-fits-all design and foregoing noise cancellation. However, Amazon’s offering comes at a significantly lower cost compared to its counterpart. At present, the Echo Buds are available for pre-order exclusively in the United States, with a release date scheduled for June 7.

In conjunction with the Echo Buds, Amazon has also unveiled a range of new Echo smart devices, including the Echo Pop smart speaker with its unique semi-spherical design.
