Amazon is simplifying its Fire TV Channels by launching a new app that bundles over 400 content providers on the platform into one convenient location. This update is rolling out to smart TVs and streaming media players that support Amazon Fire TV in the United States.
Users can access this app in two ways: by commanding Alexa to “Play Fire TV Channels” to open the app or by navigating to the Fire TV’s “Your Apps & Channels” menu. Once accessed, the app will appear in the “Recently Used Apps” row on the Home screen.
Amazon is also introducing new providers to Fire TV Channels, expanding its offerings. This update comes at a time when free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) platforms like Fire TV Channels are gaining popularity as an alternative to traditional cable TV.
Amazon’s FAST services, including Fire TV Channels and Freevee, are positioned to take advantage of the growing demand for free streaming content, especially as subscription streaming services raise their prices. This move aligns with Amazon’s strategy to offer a variety of content options to its customers. It’s unclear whether this update will be rolled out to other countries where Amazon Fire TV is available.
