Baldur’s Gate 3’s director and CEO of Larian Studios, Swen Vincke, said that the team is “actually very close” to having the game finished and that it will be released on Xbox Series X|S before December.
Vincke stated last week that “we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year” after the game’s launch on the two consoles was initially delayed because of technical difficulties. Split-screen co-op will not be available when the Xbox Series S version launches, it was also revealed.
Vincke stated in a recent interview with IGN that now that a fix has been found, “it shouldn’t take that long” to release the sizable RPG and put it in Xbox users’ hands: “It’s 2023. In my opinion, it’s already fairly precise, and 2023 is getting closer,” Vincke said. Between September and November, or, to be honest, as soon as we can.
But before concentrating entirely on the Xbox release, Larian Studios will continue to pay close attention to the upcoming PS5 version before turning its attention to PC game patches. Vincke clarified, however, that “the Xbox Series X version was already in good shape last time I looked at it”.
“There’s a bunch of stuff that needs to happen to finalise it,” he said. However, I believe that both technically and in terms of content, we are actually very close.
It was already running before, so it shouldn’t take that long, he continued. The team continues to optimise for all platforms because we really want to hit 60 frames per second on everything, so that doesn’t mean we won’t try to make it work also in split-screen.
Fans will just have to wait and see exactly when Baldur’s Gate 3 will be made available for Series X|S for the time being, but it sounds like we won’t have to wait too long.
