According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the next-generation iPad Pro with Apple’s newest M2 chip will be available in “a matter of days.” It will be the first new model since May of last year, with a 20% speed increase over the M1 variant. Apple will also release an iPad dock with an integrated speaker in 2023, as well as new Macs later this year, according to Gurman’s email.
The new iPad Pro devices will have the same form factors as the existing ones, with display sizes of 11-inch and 12.9-inch. While the speed boost isn’t huge (20% is still considerable), the M2 processors should improve the efficiency of the iPad Pro. Along with the new high-end devices, Apple will soon release an entry-level iPad, according to Gurman. It will apparently include a USB-C connector rather than a Lightning connection (to comply with forthcoming European regulations), as well as 5G compatibility, but will employ an A14 Bionic processor rather than an M-series chip.
Another exciting piece of news is that Apple is developing an iPad docking attachment with a built-in speaker, which might be released next year. Users may connect an iPad to the gadget to receive a complete home hub/smart speaker experience. It looks to be the Pixel charging speaker dock that Google said will be available with the Pixel Tablet when it launches next year.
In addition to new iPads, Apple will release 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro versions later this year. They will include more powerful variants of the M2 processor, such as the M2 Pro and M2 Max. A Mac Mini with an M2 CPU will also be available soon.
Finally, Apple is developing the next-generation Apple TV, which will include an A14 CPU and 4GB of RAM, a major upgrade over the present A12 model. While Gurman is typically correct on these matters, Apple has a habit of changing its mind regarding goods and launch dates, so take the rumours with a grain of salt until they’re formally revealed.
