After years of making some of the biggest, most explosive playgrounds in gaming history, Christofer Sundberg is ready to show us something a little different. The new $25 action game from the creator of Just Cause, titled Samson: A Tyndalston Story, officially has a release date. His new studio, Liquid Swords, confirmed during the recent IGN Fan Fest that the project will hit PC on April 8, 2026.
This isn’t just another massive sandbox with endless icons to clear off a map. Sundberg has been vocal about his desire to move away from the “bigger is better” mentality that dominates AAA development. Instead, Samson looks like a lean, mean noir thriller that values impact and atmosphere over square mileage.
A smaller world with much heavier stakes
While his previous work at Avalanche Studios was all about soaring through the air and blowing up half a country, the new $25 action game from the creator of Just Cause keeps its feet firmly on the ground. You play as Samson McRay, a man who is essentially drowning in debt in the fictional, rain-soaked city of Tyndalston.
The gameplay loop revolves around a system of “Action Points” and mounting interest rates. Every day you spend in the city costs you money, and every job you take burns through your daily stamina. It is a pressure cooker environment where standing still is literally a losing strategy. The city itself is reactive, meaning the choices you make during these jobs shift how factions and law enforcement treat you as the story progresses.
Grounded combat and 90s action vibes
The developers are describing the combat as “physical and grounded,” taking inspiration from the gritty action flicks of the 1990s. Think less superheroics and more desperate brawls. You will be using the environment, improvised tools, and visceral melee attacks to survive. There is also a heavy emphasis on vehicle combat, which should feel familiar to fans of the Mad Max game, another one of Sundberg’s notable past projects.
By pricing the title at $24.99, Liquid Swords is making a statement about the current state of the industry. They are calling it a “AA” experience, focused on a high-quality ten-hour campaign rather than a sixty-hour grind. It is a refreshing approach in an era where most flagship titles are pushing toward $70 and beyond.
If you are looking to get your hands on the new $25 action game from the creator of Just Cause, you won’t have to wait much longer. The studio is in the final stages of polishing the experience for its spring debut.
