Microsoft is rolling out a big update for its Copilot app on Windows 11. Instead of sticking with the familiar chat-based homepage, the Copilot app now greets you with a home page that looks and feels a lot more like the Windows Start menu. The update is live for some users and will roll out to everyone in stages.
With this new design, you’ll still see the signature Copilot greeting and main query box in the center. But now, four new panels line the app:
-
Quick links to recently used files for instant access
-
An area showing past Copilot conversations you can pick up again
-
A workspace called “Work on Copilot Pages,” handy for large writing or coding projects
-
A section guiding you through tasks and tips for different Windows apps via Copilot Vision
Under the hood, Microsoft is also preparing to introduce a ChatGPT-powered “Agent” feature for Copilot, which will help automate tasks like booking travel or managing projects, with hints that it could arrive with the next app update.
This app overhaul suggests Microsoft’s plan to weave Copilot deeper into Windows—moving beyond simple AI queries and making it central to how you interact with everything from files to system settings. Some speculate that this preview might hint at how Start menus will work in Windows 12, with AI-driven searches and recommendations front and center.
For now, the update is still rolling out, so not all users will see the new Copilot app right away. But it’s already clear that Microsoft is steadily making Copilot the command center of the next Windows generation.
