The iPhone 14 Pro versions may be the only ones to receive the upgraded A16 processor

According to reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max may be the only models in the next lineup to include the new A16 chip (via 9to5Mac). Kuo indicated in a tweet that the basic iPhone 14 and 14 Max will retain the A15 chipset used in all iPhone 13 models.

Additionally, Kuo predicts that each iPhone 14 model will include 6GB of RAM, with the higher-end devices boasting enhanced LPDDR5 memory and the lower-end models retaining the LPDDR 4X memory found on the iPhone 13. As 9to5Mac notes, Apple has previously given its more costly versions a processor with extra cores or RAM but has not utilized two wholly distinct processors to differentiate ordinary and premium models since the iPhone 5S and 5C were released in 2013.

Additionally, Kuo expects that the iPhone 14 Max would include a 6.7-inch display, marking the first time that a Pro-size display will be accessible in a less expensive, non-Pro phone. Kuo made a similar prediction in June, stating that Apple may be working on a larger-display iPhone that will cost less than $900. Notably, Kuo’s list omits the 5.4-inch display size, implying that Apple maybe eliminates the “small” version.

Apple has not yet made the iPhone 14 range official, but it is expected to be unveiled during a forthcoming iPhone event, which is generally held in the fall. This, of course, hasn’t prevented speculations from flowing, with Kuo already predicting a notch-less iPhone 14 with a hole-punch camera and Face ID technology hidden behind the display.

On the Mac side, Apple observer Mark Gurman has maintained his forecast that the MacBook Air (along with three other MacBooks) will ship with a new M2 chip based on the A15 chip found in the iPhone 13 — not the rumored A16.
