According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) document (PDF), the government contacted Ford in late 2021 about concerns that the live view camera was presenting a blue picture rather than what was occurring outside. This followed a previous recall in 2021 for the same issue. Ford worked with suppliers to evaluate those complaints, but it wasn’t until December 2022 that the carmaker was able to duplicate the problem in the laboratory and in-vehicle, which is why Ford has just announced a recall now.
