Apple Maps for iPhone will gain numerous new capabilities when iOS 16 is launched on Monday, the company stated on Wednesday at its “Far Out” event. High-resolution photography for applications like Zillow, as well as new developer tools like making Bird scooters and bikes simpler to discover, are among the future additions.
Along with these upgrades, Apple said that its updated map would be available in 11 more countries later this year. Cycling instructions and Look Around, a new 3D city experience, are among the new features.
The new Apple Maps capabilities will be available with the introduction of iOS 16, which also includes new Messages features that allow you to unsend and edit messages.
Number 1. Multi-Stop Routing finally comes to Apple Maps
This may change if you often use Google Maps for capabilities that Apple Maps lacks. Multistop routing is an important improvement coming to your iPhone. According to Apple, it is one of their “most desired features.”
You may now arrange up to 15 stops on your iPhone with this new capability. You may also plan your vacation on your Mac and then transmit it to your iPhone when you’re ready to go. Maps will save your prior routes in Recents so you can discover them easily while planning your journey.
To begin, launch the Maps app on your iPhone and enter your first destination. Tap Add Stop and enter your next destination to add additional stops. For example, you may type in a coffee shop first, followed by your work address.
If you’re driving and need to make another stop, ask Siri to add it to your route. This may help you avoid distractions and keep focused on the road.
Number 2. Transit features get a much-needed upgrade
If you use public transportation to work or to have a bite to eat in the evenings, Apple is introducing new transit capabilities to make your journey more convenient. You will be able to check how much your vacation will cost.
You’ll also be able to add a new transport card to your Apple Wallet app through Apple Maps. If your transport card balance becomes depleted, you’ll be notified so you may recharge it without leaving the Maps app. All you have to do is press the Reload button.
iOS 16 will be available for download on compatible iPhones from September 12th, 2022.
