McLaren’s remarkable turnaround in the 2023 Formula 1 season, from a struggling start to a position of strength, has left CEO Zak Brown full of praise for the collective efforts of the team. He specifically commended Team Boss Andrea Stella and the entire leadership team for their contributions.
At the beginning of the season, McLaren faced a challenging situation with a less competitive MCL60. The team had accumulated only 17 points in the first eight races, languishing near the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship. However, through a steadfast commitment to a concept change and a well-executed upgrade plan, McLaren has transformed their car into one of the grid’s top performers, with 155 points collected over the following eight races, bringing their total tally to 172.
Speaking during the Japanese Grand Prix weekend, where McLaren drivers secured second and third place on the podium, Brown highlighted the role of Andrea Stella’s leadership style in unleashing the talent within the team.
“It’s the same people that produced our car in Bahrain that are producing this great racing car now,” said Brown. “I think you’ve got to give a lot of credit to Andrea Stella and his whole leadership team and his leadership style because he’s really unleashed the awesome talent that we’ve had in the factory.”
Brown further praised the teamwork, collaboration, and communication among the McLaren staff, emphasizing their dedication and relentless effort in driving the team’s success. He noted the remarkable transformation from their challenging start in Bahrain to their current position as a front-running team.
“It’s the same people – so great leadership, great teamwork, collaboration, communication, and just hats off to everyone back at the factory and at the track for the awesome work they’ve done,” Brown concluded, while also emphasizing the need to maintain the team’s momentum.
