The concept of Stories, popularized by Snapchat, has since been adopted by numerous social media platforms, most notably Instagram. However, YouTube has made the decision to retire its version of the feature, joining the ranks of Twitter and LinkedIn, which have also moved away from Stories.
In reality, YouTube’s move to discontinue Stories may be driven by the coexistence of its TikTok-style Shorts, a format that continues to gain traction. Furthermore, YouTube has highlighted the availability of Community posts as an alternative for creators to share quick updates with their audiences. The platform stated that creators who utilize “posts and Stories” observe that posts generate significantly more comments and likes on average compared to Stories.
