X and Bluesky introduce vertical video feeds to capitalize on TikTok’s uncertain US future.

X also joins the vertical video scrolling trend to fill the TikTok shaped void

TikTok’s brief departure from US app stores left a void that competitors quickly sought to fill. Platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky have jumped on the opportunity, each launching TikTok-style vertical video features over the weekend.

X’s New Video Tab

X rolled out a dedicated vertical video tab, accessible from the app’s bottom navigation bar via a play button icon. This change simplifies video discovery, eliminating the need to click a starting video before scrolling through content. It’s part of X’s ongoing push into video, which includes its underwhelming TV app.

Owner Elon Musk announced the feature late Sunday with his characteristic flair. While it’s another step in X’s evolution, how well it competes with established short-form video platforms remains uncertain.

Bluesky’s Custom Video Feeds

Bluesky also revealed a vertical video feed in its Explore tab on Sunday. In a post, the company stated:

“We had to get in on the video action, too — Bluesky now has custom feeds for video! Like any other feed, you can choose to pin these or not. Bluesky is yours to customize.”

The feature allows users to browse trending videos, with the option to pin the feed for quick access.
