What is even more surprising is the fact that from 2007 to 2013, Netflix survived on the back of streaming existing movies that were popular with the populace. It was only in 2013 that NEtflix started with it’s own original content. House Of Cards went on to become one of the most popular shows on the internet, spanning six seasons until it’s end in 2018.
For those of you who have not got the chance to stream House of Cards, the show is a political drama set in Washington, D.C., and is the story of Congressman Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), a Democrat from South Carolina’s 5th congressional district and House Majority Whip, and his equally ambitious wife Claire Underwood (Robin Wright). Frank is passed over for appointment as Secretary of State, so he initiates an elaborate plan to attain power, aided by Claire. The series deals with themes of ruthless pragmatism, manipulation, betrayal, and power.
