WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new beta update that will bring multi-account support to its Android app, catering to users who manage multiple WhatsApp accounts. According to WABetaInfo, the feature will allow users to switch between different profiles on the same device, similar to how Instagram (also owned by Meta) handles account switching. A pop-up at the bottom of the app will display the current accounts and provide an option to add new ones.
The added accounts will be stored on the device and can be logged out of at any time. This feature will be particularly useful for individuals who maintain separate work and personal numbers or wish to explore WhatsApp’s social media-oriented features like Channels. With Channels, users can send broadcasts such as photos and polls to their followers, and WhatsApp has plans to monetize this feature for content creators in the future. Additionally, WhatsApp has been reportedly working on introducing usernames, similar to Instagram or Twitter, which will enable users to find others without requiring their phone numbers.

The introduction of multi-account support follows the recent launch of companion mode for iOS and Android, allowing users to use the same WhatsApp account on up to four different devices. Previously, users could only be logged in on a single mobile phone along with their tablet and computer.
While there is no specific timeline for the full release of multi-account support, it is expected to become widely available once it is officially launched. Currently, the feature is only visible in the Android beta update, indicating that WhatsApp is still in the testing phase.
The addition of multi-account support and companion mode reflects WhatsApp’s efforts to enhance user convenience and flexibility in managing their accounts across various devices. These updates cater to the needs of users who rely on multiple WhatsApp accounts for different purposes and provide more options for seamless messaging experiences.
