Tumblr users who do not want a specific post reblogged by others will now be able to disable the reblog setting. Tumblr states in a blog post that reblogs controls will be available today on the web and iOS, with Android to follow soon.
Users can pick between two reblog options while creating a post. Anyone on the platform has the option of reblogging the content to their own blog. A new option will allow users to disable reblogs on that article, preventing anyone from reblogging it.
Tumblr states in the post that the functionality was created in response to user requests that regulating reblog settings will provide a sense of security. According to the business, even if a user blocks someone else after the post is made, the barred user will not be able to reblog the post.
Users may find ways to circumvent postings that have reblogs disabled, such as capturing screenshots or reposting content. However, the new function gives users more choice over how their information is shared and who may interact with it.
Other platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, have introduced additional options to give users more control over their posts. Twitter began testing an “unmentioned” function in April, allowing users to remove themselves from conversations in which they were tagged. Meta updated Facebook settings last week, slightly modifying the default setting for who may view a post.
