It looks like Meta has finally conceded to the European Union’s Online Services Regulations, which can only mean one thing – They can finally launch Threads in Europe. The social media giant will look to launch Threads across the entirety of Europe, that too, in compliance with EU policies, which will allow users to access the platform, without the need to create a profile.
Threads launched back in July as a competitor to Elon Musk’s X, and recently, the social network celebrated 100 million active users. However, there was a bracket of users who dropped off as they failed to see the novelty in the platform and that took the number of active users to about 73 million, which, in comparison to X’s 365 million, is close to nothing.
Release in Europe will help Threads tap the expansive European market and hopefully lead to new sign ups and an increase n active users. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a bold statement earlier this year, that he expects to see 1 billion active users on the platform within the next few years, but in al honesty, that will only be possible, if Meta can convince users that Threads is the place to be.
Instagram itself, needed 8 years to reach the 1 billion users mark, but the fact that those users can use their Insta accounts to open a Threads account gives Meta hope that their new social network can breach the mark a lot earlier.
Are you using Threads? or are you Team X? Let us know in the comments!!
