The X90 Pro Plus, which comes with the brand-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU unveiled only last week, is the top of a trio of new flagship phones announced by Vivo today. The 8 Gen 2 is likely to arrive in a slew of Android flagships over the coming year, including Samsung’s S23 series, but the X90 Pro Plus is the first to market. It also has some significant camera technology, ranking it among the most ambitious smartphone cameras to date. Unfortunately for us, it is currently only available in the Chinese market.
Vivo does not explicitly designate the X90 Pro Plus’ chipset as the 8 Gen 2, most likely because to its collaboration with MediaTek, but based on the specifications, you may draw the conclusion. The other two variants in the series, the X90 and X90 Pro, are powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9200 processor (similarly, the previous-gen X80 Pro used a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the X80 used a Dimensity chipset). All three variants have a 6.78-inch, 120Hz OLED display, Android 13, and up to 12GB of RAM. This is serious business.
The three phones also include Zeiss-branded camera systems, with the Pro models featuring a huge Type 1-sized primary sensor. Vivo’s primary camera lens is made of low-dispersion glass. This, along with a wide f/1.75 aperture, the company says, transmits 24 percent more light to the sensor than the “public” version of this Sony IMX989 sensor. Each has a fixed-focus, 2x telephoto camera suited for portraiture. The Pro Plus adds a second 3.5x telephoto with a 64-megapixel sensor, as well as a high-resolution 48-megapixel ultrawide; the X90 and X90 Pro only receive a 12-megapixel ultrawide.
The Vivo X90 Pro Plus is priced at 6499 (about $910), while the X90 Pro and X90 are priced at 5499 (approximately $770) and 4499 (approximately $630), respectively.
The X90 and X90 Pro go on sale today, with the X90 delivering on November 30th and the X90 Pro coming on December 6th. The X90 Pro Plus will be available for pre-order on November 28th, with an expected release date of December 6th.
