Blink is reimagining its blocky Mini security camera as a robot. The new Mini Pan Tilt mounting kit essentially transforms your current Blink Mini camera from a fixed device to a controllable camera that allows you to see around the room.
The Pan Tilt seems to be simple to set up: attach the Mini camera to the mount, put in the Micro USB wire, and the camera now has 360-degree mobility through the Blink app. You may also put it on a tripod or wall mount (not supplied), or just set it on a table.
The Mini Pan Tilt mount is now available for presale on Amazon for $29.99. For $59.99, you can acquire the mount as well as a Blink Mini camera if you don’t already have one.
Along with the new mount, Blink is releasing a new outdoor camera that utilizes Amazon’s AZ2 processor for local video processing and does not need footage to be sent to the cloud. The Blink Wired Floodlight Camera records 1080p video and includes LED lights that can reach 2,600 lumens. If you wish to preserve all video on your computer, you’ll need an extra Sync Module 2 and a USB flash drive.
This is the first time Blink has launched a floodlight camera that is totally wired; the other variant utilizes a battery-powered Blink camera connected to a floodlight body. The new floodlight camera will be available for $99.99 in the coming months.
The Pan Tilt feature, in particular, is a great addition to the 2020 Mini camera, and presumably indicates that the hardware will be maintained for a longer period of time than the now-discontinued Amazon Cloud Cam that the Blink Mini replaced. But, given that Amazon owns both Blink and Ring and that the two businesses provide basically duplicate goods, it’s difficult to predict what Amazon’s next step will be. Ring has a wired floodlight camera and has just announced two new spotlight cameras.
