Sweden’s transportation agency and postal service are being sued by tesla for failing to deliver license plates for their automobiles due to the labour strike that was triggered by the workers union. The reason for this strike is that the workers want the non-unionised auto maker to sign a bargaining agreement, something they say is common in Sweden. The Transportation agency has announced that they have received an interim order from the district court that they have seven days to consent to Tesla’s request or face heavy fines.
Tesla, who have sold close to 9000 EVs to Swedish customers, have said that this action from the Swedish transportation agency is an attack on the brand and they won’t be taking it sitting down. This is why the American automaker has requested the district court to fine the Swedish Transportation Agency 1 Million Kronor for their actions, something that the court has already informed the agency.
The major problem that Tesla is facing due to this hold off is that registrations for their vehicles are stalled as they do not have physical license plates that they can issue for their new customers.
“The Swedish Transport Agency has now received an interim decision from the Norrköping district court to consent within 7 days to Tesla collecting license plates directly from our sign manufacturer. It appears from the decision that our sign manufacturer has announced that it is prepared to provide the signs directly to Tesla, provided that the Swedish Transport Agency agrees to this. We at the Swedish Transport Agency now need to analyze the announcement and assess what consequences this has for us and what measures might need to be taken to implement the decision. It is currently too early to say exactly what that would mean.”, said a spokesperson from the Swedish Transportation agency.
As far as Tesla is concerned, the company, who does not believe in unionising, do not follow the policy of signing a bargaining agreement, which is why the two parties are at an impasse. However, the automaker has been aggressive in their approach, and we believe they will emerge on top of the matter in due time.
