Following pandemic-related difficulties in Q2, Tesla increased production capacity again last quarter, resulting in a record number of deliveries between July 1st and September 30th. During that time, the firm produced 365,923 electric automobiles. This is a roughly 54 percent increase in production year over year, with Tesla producing 237,823 vehicles in Q3 2021. Production increased by 41.5 percent compared to Q2 2022, when the carmaker produced 258,580 automobiles.
In the third quarter, the business manufactured 19,935 Model S and Model X vehicles and delivered 18,672. The statistics for Model 3 and Model Y were 345,988 and 345,988, respectively. In all, Tesla claims to have delivered 343,830 cars in Q3, the highest in any quarter to date. According to Reuters, this was below expectations. Analysts predicted that Tesla will supply 359,162 EVs throughout the quarter.
Tesla constructed around 20,000 more automobiles than it was able to deliver during Q3. “As our manufacturing volumes increase, securing car transportation capacity at a fair cost during these peak logistical weeks becomes more difficult,” Tesla stated in a statement.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, said last year that the company anticipates a large uptick in deliveries at the conclusion of each quarter. This is because the Shanghai Gigafactory, which just produced its millionth vehicle, produces EVs for Europe and other nations in the first half of each quarter, “then vehicles for faraway parts of China, then cars for local parts of China,” Musk said.
“In Q3, we started moving to a more evenly distributed regional mix of vehicle manufacturing each week, which resulted in an increase in vehicles in transit at the conclusion of the quarter,” Tesla stated. “These vehicles have been ordered and will be delivered to consumers upon their arrival.”
In Q2 2022, the number of automobiles made and delivered by Tesla fell substantially. Work at the Shanghai facility was forced to halt in March owing to a COVID-19 outbreak in China. Production has restarted at the factory, while newly constructed Gigafactories in Berlin and Texas have helped the corporation dramatically enhance its production figures. When Tesla releases its third-quarter financial results on October 19th, we’ll learn more about what the increase in production and delivery means for the company’s bottom line.
