Tesla makes bold claims about the Cybertruck, compares it a McLaren P1

Tesla’s been talking big about the Cybertruck, especially with its stainless steel body being dubbed “bullet-resistant.” Now, Elon Musk is throwing more into the mix, saying the Cybertruck is sturdier than a McLaren P1 and won’t flip over.

At the delivery event in Austin, Musk went all out, claiming the Cybertruck is not just a better truck but also beats sports cars at their own game. He said its torsional rigidity is higher than that of a P1 hypercar. The catch? No hard numbers or chassis details to back it up.

Now, the McLaren P1 came out back in 2012, making it a bit long in the tooth. Torsional rigidity tends to get better over time as materials and methods improve, and sports cars usually show off significant gains every few years.

And about not tipping over? It’s a bit fuzzy how true that is or how they’re even measuring it. Musk’s pitch is that the Cybertruck’s crazy low center of gravity, like the Model S, and its wide stance make it pretty darn stable, even in a crash.
