Tesla has initiated a notification process, informing owners that they now have the option to transfer their previously purchased Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature to a new Tesla vehicle. This offer comes with a “one-time amnesty,” as announced by Elon Musk during the automaker’s Q2 2023 investor call.
Twitter user Keith Dahlenburg recently shared a screenshot of the offer’s rules and conditions. The key condition stipulates that owners can only take advantage of this one-time amnesty if they take delivery of a new Tesla vehicle between July 20th and September 30th, 2023. The offer cannot be applied retroactively, which means those who have taken delivery before or after the specified dates will need to pay for access to FSD again.
FSD is a premium feature with a substantial price tag. Tesla raised the price to $15,000 last year, representing a significant increase for early adopters who were fortunate enough to acquire the feature for $5,000 in previous years. However, this new offer provides a valuable opportunity for these owners to obtain a new model without incurring the expense of the FSD feature again.

While accepting the transfer offer, owners will need to relinquish the FSD capability in their current vehicle. Tesla will remove FSD from their old electric vehicle up to a week before their scheduled delivery date for the new car. Importantly, once removed, the FSD feature cannot be reinstated, even if the purchase of the new car is canceled. It is essential for owners to consider this aspect carefully before opting for the transfer.
However, it is worth noting that Tesla does not guarantee delivery of the new vehicle within the promotion period. Consequently, owners may risk missing the transfer offer if their deliveries are delayed.
The offer presents a compelling opportunity for Tesla owners to enjoy the benefits of FSD in their new vehicles without the additional cost. Nevertheless, they must be mindful of the conditions and timeline involved in order to make informed decisions during this limited-time promotion.
