They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but TCL is betting they might be an audiophile’s best friend too. Or at least, a friend to the fitness fans who miss the bold 80s new romantic ear cuff look. Walking through the halls of MWC 2026 in Barcelona, I have seen plenty of tablets and paper like screen technologies, but nothing caught the light quite like the TCL CrystalClip earbuds.
TCL has never been a company to stay inside the lines. If you remember the TCL Telly Table or those wild design concepts they showed off in Milan a few years back, you know they love merging two product categories into one. This time, they are trying to turn the open earbud into a piece of high end jewelry, and the result is definitely the most flashy thing at the show this year.

Form meets fashion at MWC 2026
The TCL CrystalClip earbuds are a bit of a departure from the sleek, minimalist plastic we usually see from brands like Sony or Apple. The model shown off at the event is a spin on the typical clip-on design, but with a major twist: optional Swarovski crystal decals.
It is a bold move. Most of the TCL MWC 2026 releases have been focused on utility and eye health, so seeing a pair of earbuds bedecked in crystals was a bit of a shock. These are not built into the buds themselves, but are instead clip-on extras that you can add or remove depending on how much you want to sparkle at the gym. While we were not able to handle the piece in person, what we can say is that the collaboration has had a bit of a say on the way the device is built.
The practicality of sparkling audio
The big question with any fitness focused gear is whether it can actually survive a workout. The open earbud design is a natural fit for runners because it allows you to hear ambient noise, like traffic or other people, while you listen to your music. However, the Swarovski decals on the TCL CrystalClip earbuds raised a few eyebrows during my hands-on time.
In person, the crystals look great under the bright lights of the show floor. But if you are hitting the pavement for a 5k run, you have to wonder if those shiny stickers are going to stay put. Even more frustrating is a small design quirk: you cannot shut the charging case while the crystal decals are attached. It means every time you want to top up the battery, you have to peel off your fashion statement. For the average user, that might be a step too far in the name of style.
Choosing between flash and function
The good news for those who aren’t looking to blindingly reflect the sun during their morning jog is that the crystals are optional. You don’t have to buy the buds with the extra decals, and ignoring them will likely save you a few bucks on the final price tag. Even without the gems, the base model is still called the CrystalClip, which suggests TCL is really leaning into this new branding.
It is refreshing to see a company take a swing at something purely for the sake of personality. Most of the fashionable fitness earbuds on the market right now look identical. TCL is at least offering a way to stand out, even if the implementation feels a bit “first generation” in terms of how the accessories interact with the charging case.
Open earbuds are becoming a crowded category. People love them because they don’t have to jam silicone tips into their ear canals, and the comfort level for long sessions is usually superior. By launching the TCL CrystalClip earbuds, the company is trying to grab a slice of the pie by appealing to the “athleisure” crowd.
