Slack claims to have “identified the cause” of its threading issues and has released a fix

If you had problems with Slack on Thursday, you weren’t alone; the service’s status page reported that “something’s not quite right” with messaging, apps, integrations, APIs, and connections for the majority of the day. The problems, which appear to affect threads, channels, notifications, and group DMs, lasted almost the entire workday, beginning around 9:40 AM ET this morning and ending around 5:40 PM ET.

Slack noted “significant improvement with notifications, accessing channels/DMs, saved items, and API hyperlinks” around 3 PM ET, and by 5:03 PM, it said it had identified the issue with threads and was rolling out a fix. If you’re still having problems, the incident page recommends reloading Slack with the Command + Shift + R keyboard shortcut on Mac or the Ctrl + Shift + R keyboard shortcut on Windows and Linux.

While these issues were inconvenient, they were not as disruptive as full Slack outages. That could explain why there isn’t a lot of buzz about it on Twitter and why there aren’t many reports on Downdetector.com. Hopefully, Slack will get things sorted out soon.
