Spotify to replace heart icon with dual-purpose plus button for easier music control

Spotify is saying farewell to its heart symbol. The firm is consolidating the symbol for swiftly saving music to your library and the “add to playlist” prompt into a single plus button.

The plus button on Spotify differs from the plus button on Apple Music in that touching it a second time on an album or playlist downloads it to your device. When you hit Spotify’s + button once, a song, playlist, podcast, or audiobook will be added to your collection. The plus button will then become a green check mark. Using the checkbox on the Currently Playing screen, you may add the song or podcast episode to a playlist instead of just adding it to your Liked Songs or Your Episodes.

Spotify claims that the plus button would make it easier for users to store tracks and podcasts. According to a blog post, user research revealed that the button “saved time and allowed users to contribute to numerous playlists at once.” That may be beneficial if you’re listening to a radio station or Discover Weekly and come across a song you enjoy that would fit well on one or more of your playlists.

The + button is now available on Spotify’s iOS and Android applications. In the following weeks, it will be accessible to all Spotify users.
