Speculation Surfaces: Upcoming Witcher Game to Feature Co-Op Playability

CD Projekt Red, the developer behind the successful Witcher franchise, is reportedly working on a new game within the Witcher universe, Codename Sirius, that is expected to feature co-op multiplayer. This information was revealed through recent job listings posted on Reddit by Awkward96, which suggest that Sirius will offer “co-op, PvE, a class system, multiple game modes, and social activities.” This news has sparked excitement among Witcher fans who have been eagerly awaiting the next instalment in the franchise.

Sirius is one of several Witcher projects that CD Projekt Red has in development, following the crash and subsequent revival of Cyberpunk 2077. The Witcher franchise, based on the world of Andrzej Sapkowski, culminated with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which provided a conclusion to Geralt of Rivia’s journey. Since then, CD Projekt Red has released Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, a critically acclaimed niche game, and Cyberpunk 2077, an open-world shooter that faced a commercial disaster but has since seen its reputation recover with the help of a universally adored anime adaptation.

In addition to the co-op multiplayer, the job listings also suggest that Sirius will feature a class system, multiple game modes, and social activities. Other job openings include a Senior Combat Designer, Narrative Director, and Technical Game Designer, all of whom are required to deliver various elements of the game, such as different types of enemies, non-linear storytelling, and procedurally generated systems.

Some fans have speculated that the co-op aspect of Sirius could lead to a gameplay experience similar to The Division, but with a focus on monster slaying. CD Projekt Red has been working toward incorporating multiplayer into their games in recent years, and their previous experience with the cooperative game Drake Hollow, developed by The Molasses Flood, could prove to be an invaluable resource for a cooperative Witcher experience.

CD Projekt Red has also previously developed the popular Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, which was born from the mini-game in The Witcher 3 and has hosted numerous competitions over the years. Although it was announced late last year that no new cards or content would be added to Gwent: The Witcher Card Game in 2024, many from the development team are expected to be reassigned to other Witcher projects, as has already occurred.

Overall, the rumours of a co-op multiplayer experience in Codename Sirius have generated much excitement among fans of the Witcher franchise, and CD Projekt Red’s reputation for delivering high-quality games has fans eager for more information about this new project.
