Special Edition Chipset Powering Samsung Galaxy S24: What to Expect

The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S24 series, expected to launch early next year, is making headlines ahead of its release, particularly in terms of the processor that will power these flagship smartphones.

Recent comparisons of two leaked benchmarks, one allegedly from the Nubia RedMagic 9 and the other believed to be from the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, suggest that the Galaxy S24 Plus will sport a special edition Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

While both handsets are anticipated to run on the yet-to-be-announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, the configuration listings attached to the leaked benchmarks reveal subtle differences in processor specs between the two devices.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip consists of cores, individual processing units, which are reportedly arranged differently and operate at slightly higher speeds on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus compared to the Nubia RedMagic 9.

In the earlier part of the year, Qualcomm and Samsung collaborated to create a customized version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor exclusively for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. This partnership appears to be continuing, potentially leading to similar arrangements for flagship Android phones in 2024.

Speculation has surrounded the choice of chipset for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, with rumors suggesting that Samsung may revert to its previous approach of using its own Exynos processors in some versions of the phone. The Galaxy S23 series, in contrast, utilized Snapdragon processors in all three models.

Although the exact power and capabilities of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 remain uncertain, it is expected to launch before the end of 2023, adding to the excitement surrounding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series.
