Snapchat has announced that its ChatGPT-powered AI personality, My AI, will be available to all users worldwide. Previously, the in-app chatbot was only accessible to Snapchat+ subscribers. The upgraded version of My AI comes with new features, including recommendations for restaurants and activities based on what’s popular in the Snap Map, suggestions for augmented reality lenses, and the ability to respond to photo and video snaps. Users can add the AI to group chats and give it a custom name and avatar through Bitmoji.
The AI has been a hit with users, with 2 million messages exchanged daily, but it has also faced criticism for inappropriate conversations and questionable advice given to researchers posing as teens. In response, Snap has added “additional moderation technology” and trained the AI to consider the age of the user it’s messaging with to prevent unsafe chats. Parents will also be able to track their teens’ chat time through the app’s parental control feature, Family Center.
