Skull Island: Rise of Kong Faces Backlash Over Graphics Quality

Disappointed Players Critique Game's Visuals and Style

The highly anticipated Skull Island: Rise of Kong is currently under fire online as players have stumbled upon in-game footage that some describe as reminiscent of PS1-era graphics.

This action-adventure game, set to launch on October 17, lets players step into the colossal shoes of King Kong as he embarks on a quest for vengeance against the alpha predator, Gaw, to avenge his fallen parents. Priced at $39.99 / £34.99, the single-player title is available on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

GameMill Entertainment, the publisher behind the game, has billed Skull Island: Rise of Kong as an “exhilarating, third-person action-adventure game” on its Steam page, allowing players to witness the evolution of the orphaned Kong from a young ape to the majestic King of Skull Island.

However, the initial enthusiasm doesn’t seem to align with the general sentiment surrounding the game. Numerous players have taken to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction with the game’s style and graphics.

Many tweets have humorously criticized the notably low-quality graphics, which appear more suited to a PS1-era game rather than a title available on modern consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. One Twitter user lamented, “King Kong deserves better than whatever this is supposed to be.”

Regrettably, the last King Kong game was released 18 years ago, back in 2005, titled “Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie.”

As the release of Skull Island: Rise of Kong draws closer, only time will tell how well it is received and whether it can defy the initial critics. For those uncertain about the game’s value given its price tag, it might be prudent to wait for reviews before making a decision.
