Shinji Mikami Says Goodbye to Bethesda and Tango Gameworks

Shinji Mikami, the founder and CEO of Tango Gameworks, is set to depart from the company in the coming months, according to Bethesda, which acquired the studio in 2010. The influential game designer, who has spent 33 years in the industry, is yet to comment on the reasons for his departure or where he intends to go next.

Mikami is best known for his work on early Resident Evil games, but has also played a pivotal role in the development of other Capcom series, including Devil May Cry, Dino Crisis, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. He founded Tango Gameworks in 2010 after a brief stint at PlatinumGames, and his studio has produced successful titles such as the Evil Within series and Ghostwire: Tokyo, as well as the recent surprise-release rhythm brawler, Hi-Fi Rush.

Despite Mikami’s departure, Bethesda has reassured fans that Tango Gameworks will continue to operate as usual, noting that Mikami has acted as a supportive mentor to younger developers at the company. Nevertheless, his exit represents the departure of an industry legend from the studio that was created to reflect his vision.
