Sea Cheetah Unveils World’s First Hydrogen WIGE Vessel with Breakthrough Efficiency

Miami-based Sea Cheetah Corporation has partnered with Toulouse-based H3 Dynamics to introduce the world’s first hydrogen-electric wing-in-ground effect (WIGE) vessel, poised to redefine marine transportation. This innovative vessel can reach speeds exceeding 155 mph (135 knots or 250 kph) while boasting a threefold increase in cargo capacity and tenfold efficiency compared to traditional maritime options.

Revolutionizing Marine Transport

WIGE vessels operate just above the water’s surface, leveraging ground effect for lift. This unique design allows for faster coastal and island transport while consuming significantly less fuel than conventional boats or aircraft. Sea Cheetah’s goal is to enhance marine transportation efficiency, reducing travel time and operational costs.

Equipped to cruise at speeds up to 200 knots (370 kph or 230 mph), these vessels can carry heavy payloads over long distances. They also encounter fewer regulatory hurdles compared to traditional transport methods, making them suitable for diverse applications, including passenger transport, cargo delivery, and search-and-rescue missions.

A Shift Toward Hydrogen Power

The partnership with H3 Dynamics aims to boost the efficiency of Sea Cheetah’s hydrogen-electric propulsion system, surpassing fossil fuel-powered systems in fuel economy. The hybrid hydrogen powertrain will increase range and payload capacity, making WIGE vessels a viable option for coastal and island markets worldwide.

In addition to enhancing propulsion systems, the collaboration will introduce small, decentralized green hydrogen production modules, known as Sea Cheetah H2Hub and H2Hub Micro, facilitating rapid refueling operations. These innovative systems allow vessels to receive on-site produced green hydrogen, expediting turnaround times while docked.

Eco-Friendly Transportation Future

By integrating advanced technologies and hydrogen fuel cell innovations, Sea Cheetah and H3 Dynamics are set to lead the charge in eco-friendly transportation solutions for marine applications. With a vision for sustainable transport, these vessels will be classified as marine craft, expediting their certification and market availability.

Sea Cheetah’s hydrogen-powered WIGE vessels represent a significant leap in transportation technology, promising to carry three times more payload than competing options while operating at ten times the speed and fuel efficiency.
