Say Goodbye to Unwanted DMs: Instagram Introduces ‘Quiet Mode’ Feature

Instagram is finally providing you with a solution to tell people to stop flooding your DMs with unwanted messages. Introducing Quiet Mode – a new toggle that allows users to temporarily mute notifications from the app, including direct messages. So, if someone tries to send you a DM and you’ve got Quiet Mode turned on, they’ll receive an auto-reply from Instagram telling them that you haven’t been notified of the message since you’re in Quiet Mode.

Instagram says that this feature is available for all users, but was specifically designed for teenagers who need to silence notifications for things like studying, school, and more. Users can also schedule times when Quiet Mode is automatically turned on. It’s like having your own personal assistant to manage your notifications.

The feature is now available in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand and the company plans to bring it to more countries soon. Instagram has also added more ways to manage feedback and more parental supervision tools.

Quiet Mode is similar to the screen time options that Apple and Google have been building into iOS and Android for years now. But, while many users won’t need to use Instagram’s own version of notification management, it’s great to see the company providing the option for those who don’t use or have access to Apple and Google’s options. So, say goodbye to unwanted DMs and hello to a more peaceful and organized inbox!
