Rivian R2 electric SUV pricing revealed: starts at $57,990 this spring, base model arrives in 2027

The Rivian R2 electric SUV is finally getting its pricing moment, and Rivian has laid everything out ahead of the vehicle’s official spring release. The short version: the first models will land this spring starting at just under $58,000, and if you are holding out for the base model at $45,000, you are going to be waiting until late 2027.

This is a phased rollout in the classic Rivian fashion. Premium trims go first, more affordable options follow. The company did exactly this with the R1T and R1S, and the R2 is following the same playbook.

What you are actually getting for $57,990

The top-tier launch configuration is the R2 Performance with Launch Package, and it earns that price tag with a proper spec sheet. It is a dual-motor AWD setup producing 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-to-60 time of 3.6 seconds and an EPA-estimated range of up to 330 miles.

The Launch Package layer adds some meaningful extras on top of the Performance trim. You get a free lifetime subscription to Autonomy+, which is Rivian’s hands-free driving tech. There are 20-inch Black Sand all-terrain wheels, a limited Rivian Green anodized key fob, and the exclusive Launch Green exterior paint as a paid upgrade option. Towing capacity comes in at up to 4,440 pounds with the included tow package.

On the design side, the Rivian R2 in this configuration gets Matrix LED headlights with adaptive high beams, a semi-active suspension, integrated tow hooks, 21-inch tungsten all-season wheels, and Compass Yellow brake calipers. There is even a flashlight that lives inside the driver door, which has become a bit of a Rivian signature at this point. Inside, the Black Crater color scheme pairs with birch wood accents, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, and 12-way power adjustment with lumbar support for both the driver and front passenger.

It is a fully loaded package, and at $57,990 it is positioned clearly for early adopters and enthusiasts rather than budget buyers.

The R2 Premium: a step down, still well equipped

Coming in late 2026 at $53,990, the R2 Premium drops the Launch Package extras but keeps a lot of what makes the Performance trim worth looking at. The motor setup is also dual-motor AWD, though output comes down to 450 horsepower and 537 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-to-60 time of 4.6 seconds. Range stays at up to 330 miles EPA-estimated, which is the same as the Performance.

The noticeable differences between this and the Performance are the wheels, which switch to 20-inch bicolor carbon all-season units, and the absence of certain drive modes. The rally, soft sand, and launch modes are not included in this configuration. For most buyers who are not going off-road regularly or looking for launch mode bragging rights, the Premium is probably the more sensible choice if you want the dual-motor setup without paying for a bunch of extras you might not use.

The R2 Standard: two flavors, two timelines

The more accessible versions of the Rivian R2 electric SUV are a while away. The first Standard variant, sometimes referred to as the RWD Long Range configuration, arrives in the first half of 2027 at $48,490. It uses a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup with 350 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque. The range actually edges slightly ahead here, with Rivian estimating up to 345 miles, though it is worth noting that this is a Rivian estimate rather than an EPA figure. The 0-to-60 time is 5.9 seconds.

The interior is more stripped down. You get heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, 12-way driver seat adjustment, and 19-inch machine graphite wheels. No passenger-side 12-way adjustment, and fewer luxury touches compared to the upper trims.
