Following the recent showcase of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay, Insomniac Games has unveiled another exciting announcement. The studio’s highly acclaimed title, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, will be making its way to PC on July 26th.
As is customary with PC versions of PlayStation exclusives, the PC port of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will come with additional enhancements. According to Julian Huijbregts, an online community specialist at Nixxes (the Sony studio responsible for the port), players can expect new features such as “ray-traced shadows for natural light in outdoor areas,” which will provide realistic shadows with natural gradients in softness. The gameplay and cutscenes have also been optimized for ultra-wide displays, catering to aspect ratios of 21:9, 32:9, and even 48:9 for triple-monitor setups.
The PC version will offer unlocked framerates, allowing for a smoother gaming experience. It will also support upscaling technologies like NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 2, Intel XeSS, and Insomniac’s own Temporal Injection. Additionally, players will have the option to use either a keyboard and mouse with fully customizable controls or a controller. If using a DualSense controller, they can enjoy the same haptic feedback and dynamic trigger effects as on the PlayStation 5.
Having recently played Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart myself after it became available on PlayStation Plus, I can attest to its stunning visuals, engaging combat, compelling characters, and intelligent writing. Insomniac Games has showcased exceptional utilization of the DualSense’s capabilities, surpassing the efforts of many other studios.
Fans are hoping that Insomniac and Nixxes will be able to overcome the technical issues that have plagued PC versions of other Sony games in the past. The initial PC releases of titles like The Last of Us Part 1 (handled by Iron Galaxy in collaboration with Naughty Dog) and Horizon Zero Dawn encountered notable problems, which were subsequently addressed with the assistance of Nixxes.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart relies on the fast load times of the PlayStation 5 to seamlessly execute its dimension-hopping gameplay feature. Considering this, it is advisable to have a powerful gaming rig to fully enjoy the PC port’s visual splendor. As a result, it would be wise to wait for Sony to reveal the official PC specifications before pre-ordering the game on platforms like Steam or the Epic Games Store.
PC gamers can look forward to diving into the fantastic world of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, experiencing its vibrant gameplay and remarkable universe when it launches on July 26th.
