Qualcomm is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ in May, according to reports

Since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset was announced, rumors have circulated about a mythical “+” version that would be manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm node rather than Samsung’s – which fueled a lot of speculation about this Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ being less prone to overheating and throttling performance than its non-Plus sibling, given that TSMC’s 4nm process is widely regarded as more efficient.

Multiple credible reports suggest that the new SoC will be unveiled in May. It stands to reason that handsets powered by it will be disclosed shortly thereafter – so assuming this scenario plays out, the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ phones will be introduced before the end of May and will be available in June. Lenovo and Motorola, OnePlus, and Xiaomi are among the first-phase customers.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is designated by the model number SM8450, while the 8 Gen 1+ is designated by the model number SM8475, indicating that Qualcomm is anticipating it to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor.

New 7-series CPUs, such as the 8 Gen 1+, are already in the hands of smartphone companies for testing and product launch preparations.
