Patch 6.3 of Final Fantasy 14 will provide more housing wards

Finding a house in Final Fantasy 14 has long been one of the game’s most complex challenges. Home prices in the game, as in real life, have escalated to the point that only the game’s oldest veterans can even expect to buy one if they can locate one. That is why auto-demonstrations are slated to return with version 6.3, but Square Enix will also introduce new housing wards.

More dwellings are coming in the 6.3 updates, “Gods Revel, Lands Tremble,” as mentioned in yesterday’s Letter from the Producer #75 (and translated by the ever-helpful Nova Crystallis Twitter account).

All residential areas will be expanded, with six standard wards and six subdivisions totalling 1,800 new plots per planet. All will be available for purchase via a lottery system, as has been the norm in FF14. “Plots in newly created wards are unavailable for purchase due to housing availability on current planets,” Nova Crystallis revealed.

The Lodestone will describe which wards will be offered to free corporations or private purchasers.

Auto-demolitions are another contentious mechanism slated to reappear in version 6.3. Although they were implemented well over a year ago to assist with the housing problem, auto-demolitions have been on hold since early this year, first owing to the pandemic, and then due to the situation in Ukraine. This moratorium will expire on January 10, with residents obliged to enter their homes at least once every 45 days to prevent having their homes destroyed automatically. That timer will resume where it left off previous to the auto-demolition halt, so residents should visit their properties before 6.3 arrives.
