In a twist at Blizzcon 2023 Jared Neuss, the executive producer of Overwatch 2 made an unexpected announcement. He revealed that the recent collaborations with the anime sensation One Punch Man and the Kpop group Le Sserafim were not simply marketing tactics to attract new players. Instead they were expressions of the developers passions shared directly with the existing Overwatch 2 community.
In an interview with TRG Neuss emphasized that these collaborations aimed to establish a connection with current players rather than expanding the games audience. “It’s interesting because I haven’t really seen these collaborations as a way to reach an audience ” Neuss explained. “I view them like love letters from our team to our players; it’s about sharing what we’re genuinely passionate about.” The collaboration with One Punch Man, an adored anime series was fueled by the teams excitement and enthusiasm. Neuss expressed this by saying, “The team was absolutely thrilled about working on One Punch Man; they couldn’t wait to release it and share it with players.” Similarly their connection with Kpop group Le Sserafim emerged from their love, for this music genre.
Neuss went on to say that following the overwhelming response to these collaborations, he wishes to make even more collaborations with trending shows, anime, and artist groups around the world. The Overwatch Community is a vibrant one that has gamers from around the world, and by inviting collaborations with different genres, not only will they appease existing fans, but also get them to stay committed to the platform.
