Blizzard will take the Overwatch 2 servers down once again to address some of the problems that have arisen since the game’s bumpy debut. The game will be turned off at about 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT) and will be unavailable for an hour. This is the third downtime in two days, as Blizzard had to pull the game down again on Thursday.
In a post on its forums, Blizzard highlighted the patches in the works as well as some updates on a handful of the larger concerns. Blizzard hopes to remedy Watchpoint Packs not displaying as available for players who preordered them during Friday evening’s outage, as well as the LC-208 issue that is preventing some players from logging in.
Blizzard announced in a post on Friday that the adjustment to SMS Protect phone number restrictions is now officially in place. To be able to play Overwatch 2, gamers had to have a postpaid phone number connected to their accounts. However, in response to player outrage, Blizzard announced that it will relax the regulation so that those who have previously played Overwatch with a linked Battle.net account would no longer need to register a phone number to play the sequel.
The business is also investigating the high wait periods that players may be encountering prior to matches.
Blizzard is upbeat about the changes it put in place on Thursday. According to the forum post, the adjustments “resulted in a quadrupling of our capacity and an eventual decrease in login lines overnight.” Blizzard will keep an eye on things over the next several days, as “weekend gamer hours will be its largest test yet.” Hopefully, things are beginning to improve with Overwatch 2.
