Overwatch 2 Team Acknowledges Review-Bombing Challenge: ‘Not a Fun Experience’

Overwatch 2, upon its release on Steam, received heavy criticism from players, resulting in it having one of the lowest user scores on the platform. The aggregate user score plummeted to 0.94 out of 10, which is lower than several other games like Redfall, eFootball, and Battlefield 2042 that also faced unfavorable player feedback upon release.

Blizzard has acknowledged this player dissatisfaction and responded to the review bombing. Aaron Keller, a representative from Blizzard, expressed that they’ve seen many new players trying Overwatch 2 on Steam but also noted that a significant portion of the negative reviews mentioned the cancellation of a larger PvE component that was announced in 2019. He mentioned that he understands why players are dissatisfied with this aspect.

Keller explained that they can’t change the past but emphasized their commitment to moving forward by continually improving Overwatch 2. This includes adding more maps, heroes, game modes, missions, stories, events, cosmetics, and features to create an ever-expanding and evolving game. Keller expressed confidence in the unique nature of Overwatch and its world and assured players that there’s more to come.

The criticism surrounding Overwatch 2 primarily revolves around the cancellation of a PvE component that was originally promised, leading to disappointment among players. Blizzard’s response suggests that they are focused on the future and addressing player concerns by continually enhancing the game.
