In honour of the success of the new Netflix programme, an Overwatch 2 player submitted fan art that crosses Sombra with Wednesday Addams. Fan art combining two famous franchises isn’t unusual, but this Wednesday’s work also begs the issue of whether Blizzard is planning additional collaborations for Overwatch 2. Wednesday Addams and the rest of the Addams family are a good place to begin.
Wednesday premiered on Netflix on November 23 and has since become one of the platform’s most popular original series. Its success is surprising and unusual. Jenny Ortega’s portrayal as the grotesque Wednesday Addams surely helped, as did the Addams Family’s extensive history of films and TV series over the last 60 years. Season 2 is apparently already in the works. Wednesday is unquestionably one of the most important personalities in 2022.
Sombra is shown as Wednesday Addams with pigtails and wearing her classic outfit with a white collar in a Reddit post submitted by EulerId, albeit the original creator is unknown. The artwork is presented as a skin for Overwatch 2. The original painting is worth 9,999 Overwatch Coins, but EulerId has modified it to be 999. Perhaps they wanted it to be reasonably priced since Redditors would have jumped at the price of 9,999 coins otherwise.
Could we see this type of collaborations on the future under the current F2P/monetization system? from Overwatch
The pitch of the Reddit article is for Blizzard to start conducting collaborations in Overwatch 2 as Epic Games did with Fortnite, despite the fact that the art itself is really well-made. However, the Overwatch 2 community is shockingly split on the matter. Many fans believe Blizzard should concentrate on its own franchises such as World of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. Others, though, argue that Overwatch 2 should not have any partnerships and should instead concentrate on unique content.
However, it’s not inconceivable to see Blizzard open up Overwatch 2 to partnerships in the future. If Wednesday continues to succeed, crossover possibilities seem to be almost inevitable. Fortnite previously collaborated with Netflix to create Stranger Things and Cobra Kai skins. Wednesday seems to be an ideal day for another collaboration. Blizzard would be remiss if they did not also seek out.
Blizzard may also be opposed to the concept of giving crowdsourced skins for Overwatch 2. While the Overwatch series’ popularity has had its ups and downs, it is still a highly popular and lucrative series. If it wanted to, it could land some major partnerships. However, Activision Blizzard may not want to push the game in that route. Fans will have to fill in the blanks on their own.
