CAMERA –

Oppo literally has ‘Camera phone’ in its tagline, which is why the new quad-camera setup in the Reno 3 Pro came in with huge expectations, and boy does it deliver. It packs in a quad-camera setup at the back consisting of a 64-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, a 13-megapixel telephoto camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 119-degree field of view, and a 2-megapixel mono camera. The rear camera setup is capable of 5x hybrid zoom and 20x digital zoom. At the front, this phone has a 44-megapixel selfie shooter along with a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

The camera interface and the UI are pretty much a default when you compare them to other smartphones in this price range. You get Night, Portrait, Time-Lapse, Pano, and Slo-Mo modes. It has quick toggles for HDR and Dazzle Colour (which bumps up contrast) and shortcuts for different filters that you can apply before taking a shot. AI Scene recognition is on by default and it was quick to detect what we were shooting.

Photos taken on the Reno 3 Pro have a great amount of detail, color accuracy, and sharpness. The wide-angle camera helps capture a wider field of view but there is a considerable drop in quality when compared to the primary camera.

Photos taken in low light have decent quality, but there is some graininess visible when you slightly zoom in. You can use the inbuilt Night Mode and get better images, so that’s taken care of.

The selfie department is good, but again, not the best. The image quality is sharp, the beautification mode is on by default, so you automatically get those enhanced social media-worthy selfies, but Oppo could have done a better job here as well. The cameras are good, but they can be even better, so Oppo, please note.
