If P.T. is excluded, it has been over a decade since Konami published the last Silent Hill game, and now the company is prepared to announce what comes next for the series. On October 19th, starting at 5 PM ET, the firm will webcast the “latest updates” for the series.
In a tweet announcing the exhibition, the publisher provided a link to a temporary Silent Hill website. You should be able to see the stream there.
It seems that at least one new game is in the works. As noted by Video Game Chronicle, the original three games’ art director Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka both revealed information about the impending webcast. Both have previously made suggestions that they are developing a fresh Silent Hill game. In addition, Yamaoka handled the music for Bloober Team’s The Medium. This company, which collaborated with Konami last year, is reportedly working on a remake of Silent Hill 2.
A playable teaser for a new core game and an episodic, story-driven television series similar to P.T. are reportedly among the other Silent Hill projects under development. P.T. was an interactive teaser for the full game Silent Hills, which Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro were planning. However, Silent Hills was shelved by Konami in 2015, as Kojima abruptly parted ways with the publisher. Since then, the Silent Hill series has remained inactive, with the exception of crossovers like Pyramid Head’s appearance in Dead by Daylight.
A third Silent Hill film might be coming soon, in the meanwhile. The original movie’s director and co-writer, Christophe Gans, said last year that he had finished writing the screenplay for a sequel. This month, Gans also made a suggestion that Konami was developing many Silent Hill video games. We’ll probably learn more about them pretty soon, it would appear.
