In a momentous stride towards technological innovation, Okta, a renowned identity management company, has unveiled a groundbreaking AI-powered offering as part of its latest advancements.
During the Oktane 2023 conference, Okta introduced “Okta AI,” a sophisticated system that leverages the most advanced AI models. This innovative AI tool is set to integrate seamlessly with the extensive crowdsourced threat intelligence and identity data that Okta already possesses.
In a strategic collaboration, Okta has joined forces with tech giant Google to develop its new AI solutions atop Google’s Vertex AI, a generative AI tailored for enterprise use. The primary goal of this endeavor is to revolutionize identity management, fundamentally transforming how organizations approach this critical facet of their operations.
Okta AI aspires to fuel real-time identity actions across three crucial domains: security, user experience, and app development. It will be a pivotal component of the Workforce Identity Cloud and Customer Identity Cloud offered by Okta.
The company is optimistic about the positive impact that Okta AI will have. Citing insights from IT consulting firm Gartner, Okta emphasizes that organizations integrating AI into their identity infrastructure will substantially enhance user experiences and the efficiency of their Identity and Access Management (IAM) controls.
Okta further asserts that Okta AI transcends the typical multi-factor authentication (MFA) checks. This advanced AI system is geared to detect and respond to potential threats in real-time, not only at the initial login point but throughout the entire active session of a user. This means that protection extends beyond the first instance of authentication and encompasses all moments when the user remains logged in. Okta AI is also seamlessly deployed across the customer’s tech stack, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
Ian Lowe, Director of Solutions for EMEA at Okta, highlighted the increasing importance of identity in a world influenced by generative AI. He emphasized that in today’s context, where technology can accomplish remarkable feats like self-driving taxis and autonomous code generation, verifying an individual’s identity is paramount to understanding the origin of actions.
Lowe added, “In a business context, organizations are increasingly looking to reap the benefits of generative AI, and Gartner expects at least 35% of organizations to utilize generative AI as part of their identity fabric functions by 2025. That represents a significant number of businesses adopting this technology in a relatively short time frame.”
In this rapidly evolving landscape, businesses require technology that not only streamlines administrative tasks to enhance user experiences but also offers robust protection against sophisticated AI-driven threats. Okta AI is poised to be a pivotal player in achieving this delicate balance between user-friendly experiences and cutting-edge security.
