Nvidia Slashes Price of RTX 4060 Ti 16GB to Compete with AMD’s RDNA 3 GPUs; New MSRP Now $449

Nvidia has reduced the recommended price of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB by $50, bringing it down to $449.

Nvidia has recently made a significant price cut to its higher-tier RTX 4060 Ti 16GB graphics card, reducing its recommended price by $50. This adjustment brings the MSRP down to $449 in the US, which is a substantial reduction from the original $499. Nvidia’s decision is likely a response to the launch of AMD’s new RDNA 3 mid-range graphics cards and is aimed at improving competitiveness both in terms of performance and pricing.

The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB was introduced with an initial MSRP of $499 but has now been lowered to $449. It is worth noting that this new pricing might vary slightly in different global markets but should generally follow the 10% price cut.

Nvidia provided an official statement on the price reduction: “Finally, as a reminder, market prices can vary from the original launch MSRPs. Today, GeForce RTX 4070 is widely available at $599, and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is now available at $449.”

While the official price reduction has been confirmed, it’s worth mentioning that some retailers have offered even lower prices. For example, a PNY version of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB was briefly available for $431 on Amazon.com, although it has since sold out.

This move by Nvidia is seen as a strategic response to AMD’s unveiling of the RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT, both of which are contenders in the mid-range graphics card market. AMD compared the 7700 XT, which comes with 12GB of VRAM, to Nvidia’s RTX 4060 Ti 16GB in terms of performance. While AMD showcased advantages in several games, Nvidia’s GPU did win in some scenarios, such as Doom Eternal with ray tracing, where it was 9% faster.

Nvidia’s decision to reduce the price of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB aligns it more closely with the pricing of AMD’s 7700 XT. This price adjustment comes just before the launch of AMD’s new GPUs and is intended to make Nvidia’s offerings more competitive in the mid-range market. It is particularly attractive to consumers who prioritize future-proofing through the inclusion of 16GB of VRAM.

In retrospect, many have noted that Nvidia should have initially priced the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB at this level, and this decision by the company has been met with approval from consumers looking for more competitive mid-range GPU options.
