NVIDIA has started to send out a remedy for a fault that was causing some of its GPUs to perform worse when individuals were using Discord. According to a tweet obtained by The Verge, Windows will now automatically download an app profile update the next time users enter their PC. The update fixes a bug that prevented certain NVIDIA GPUs, especially RTX 30 series models like the 3080 and 3060 Ti, from moving memory as quickly as possible when Discord was running in the background. NVIDIA customers reported their video cards being throttled by up to 200Mhz in certain cases, resulting in a minor performance drop in most games.

Users on Reddit and the Linus Tech Tips forum were among the first to notice and describe the problem. The problem was introduced in a recent Discord version that included support for the AV1 codec. Users of the RTX 40 series may now broadcast their gaming at up to 4K and 60 frames per second through Discord Nitro using the new codec. RTX 40 series GPUs did not seem to be affected by the problem. Nonetheless, NVIDIA swiftly recognised the problem and provided a temporary solution.
