The folks over at WayForward, the masterminds behind Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, have finally reunited to put the finishing touches on this Game Boy Advance (GBA) gem after a whopping 21 years.
We got our first glimpse of this classic Metroidvania during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase last night (November 14). The showcased footage of Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution had us all in awe – with HD character portraits and a slick 16:9 ratio, it looks like a full-on remaster. Brace yourselves because this beauty is set to hit the Nintendo Switch scene sometime in 2024. And for the die-hard fans, WayForward has teamed up with Limited Run Games to drop a special GBA cartridge too.
In the world of Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, players dive into various platform levels. Your mission? Roam the iconic Sequin Land and throw a wrench into Risky Boots’ evil plans. She’s up to no good, trying to reshape the world with a subterranean device, and it’s up to you to stop her.
The journey of Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution began way back in 2002, just before the debut of the first Shantae game on Game Boy Color. However, this promising sequel got the axe in 2004. Sadly, it didn’t catch much attention back then, only building a dedicated fanbase years later. Now, with the Shantae series hitting the big leagues, it’s the perfect time to resurrect this lost gem.
“Over 20 years later, we’ve gathered the original crew to wrap up the unfinished Shantae adventure,” shared Erin Bozon, the brain behind the character, during the stream.
This Metroidvania made waves earlier in 2023 when the developers vowed to finally complete the sought-after title. Back then, WayForward had only confirmed Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution for the GBA, with promises of fresh GBA cartridges.
